I remember my very first day on air at WQMX- the winners weekend, we were giving away Carrie Underwood tickets. The listeners were so nice when they won. I never thought I would get back into radio after my first experience, but here I was. I was hooked again. I also never thought I would get another full time job in radio. Here’s my first head shot at WQMX:
When I was offered nights at WQMX, I was elated. ELATED! I told myself- Well, you can do nights forever! This is perfect! I quickly wanted more and became the most involved night gal in Akron! HA!
I can remember exactly where I was when Sue Wilson called me to ask if I would like to come join the morning show- I was at the mall with my mom. My mom thought someone was seriously injured based on my reaction. I. Freaked. Out. Sue has received a promotion herself and she wanted to come off the morning show in time, and I was moving up! Are you kidding me? Mornings is the dream! My dream! I was ready to GO!
Sue ended up leaving in 2018, and I was made Assistant Program Director shortly after that. I never remember thinking much past that. I am the helpful, funny, morning gal, who comes up with some creative ideas from time-to-time.
Next thing I know, COVID happens and some changes at the station and it became the natural thing for me to do- step up and be the Program Director. I still find myself in my office or listening to the station going- oh dear, I am in charge of that, if that goes right or wrong, I have to answer for that.
I am proud of my time at WQMX, but most of all, I am proud of the people I work with. I am so happy that I get to work with them and I get to go out in the community and meet all of you! This job is not a job. It is a pleasure! Here’s to 15 more!
